WIGS 101

Basic introduction to wigs and tools used regularly in conjunction with them. This course also takes you through a day in the life in a theatrical setting and addresses key people/departments you will work closely with during the run.

FROM ROLLER SET TO STYLE

This course breaks down how to do a proper roller set. Most importantly how to analyze a research image and choose the appropriate roller set to execute.

Cornrows, Plaits, and Twists

Recommended as an in person training, this course teaches beginner level cornrows, plaits, and twisting techniques but can also challenge artists with an advanced skill level as well.

Basic Haircutting for Wigs

This Course teaches basic haircutting including but not limited to, blunt cuts, 45 degree angle cuts, 90 degree angle cuts, proper cutting techniques for wefts, and proper barbering techniques for lace foundations. The instructor has been a licensed cosmetologist since 2011.

Extensions, Locs, and Hair Additions

This course touches on adding hair to an existing wig or hair piece for desired effect and multiple techniques to achieve this task. Basic knowledge of cornrows, plaits, and twists are required.

Advocacy In the WHAM Room

This course is all about equity in the wig and makeup room and how to support each actor’s individual needs to provide an inclusive experience for artists of all ethnicities. (Equity Diversity and Inclusion)

WHAM Supervisor Training

This course provides extensive coverage of the duties and professional expectations of a Wig and Makeup Supervisor. This training also identifies key people/ departments that a supervisor will work closely with on the job.

Makeup For The Stage

Basic makeup application techniques for large houses. This course also covers what an inclusive makeup stock looks like and how to color-correct in real time if the correct products are not within reach.

Associate Designer Training

This course provides extensive coverage of the duties and professional expectations of an Associate Designer. This training also identifies key people/ departments that an Associate will work closely with on the job.

WIG PREP DESIGN

This course covers how to choose an appropriate wig prep for different textures of hair. Twisting, braiding, plaiting, and other techniques to safely secure hair under wigs. (Equity Diversity and Inclusion)

Textured Hair Maintenance

This course focuses on proper hair care tips, products, and tools when maintaining textured hair. Properly assessing curl type, and properly choosing products based on porosity will also be addressed. (Equity Diversity and Inclusion)

Makeup FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TONES

This course focuses on how to choose foundation, blush, lipsticks and other products for makeup applications on deeper skin tones. Color-correcting, tattoo cover up, and how to choose a foundation for multi-tonal faces will also be addressed (Equity Diversity and Inclusion)

So You Want to Design

This is an introduction to the basics of design and how to breathe life into a wig and makeup concept to ultimately see it fulfilled on stage. Communication with other designers who may not fully understand wig and makeup lingo will also be addressed.

MASTERCLASS

A four hour training session, recommended to be hosted in person, covers two of any of above classes. These training sessions are interactive and include a demo. A kit is recommended for student participation

Depending on the classes being taught, a class kit list will be curated and sent to the institution for purchase. These individual kits can be assembled for you for a $50 handling fee plus shipping of all materials to the class location.

Ventilating Classes / Getting Knotty with Destinee

LEVEL ONE

Two hour class comes with a fully stocked industry professional kit and we break it all down. Terminology, direction, density, hair quality and we start a closure.

lEVEL TWO

Two hour class where we talk about building frontals, finessing hairlines, wig hacking, and repairs.

LEVEL THREE

Two hour class where we talk about foundation builds. Any and every type. We talk about molds of heads and blocking. How to make a custom wig just by measurements. How to make a factory made wig feel custom even if you’ve never met your client in person.

ONE ON ONE

A one hour consultation for when there are some issues you need additional assistance on, or if you just have questions. I don’t demo anything in these meetings. These are more conversational.
